This year, Bosnia and
Herzegovina is sending two representatives to
Eurovision. One of them of course is Hari
Varešanović who will sing for the homeland,
and the other one is Tinka Milinović, who
received an invitation from Switzerland to
sing with the rest of the members of Six4One.
To many, Tinka is very well known by her
engagements with BH Eurosong for some time
now and equally as long as a TV and radio
show host.
To the fans of Eurovision, she became known
through her performance as a dancer and back
vocal for Maja Tatić in Tallinn 2002. Back
then many noticed her and fell in love with
her, and she still enjoys their support. Many
gay fans consider her their icon, which Tinka
heartily accepts. She has set aside a bit of
time out of busy schedule to answer your
questions.
At last year's BH Eurosong you
came second thanks to the rule which made the
jury votes the deciding votes instead of the
public which voted by phone. What is your
reaction now to all that happened last March?
Same as then. It was
more than obvious what in fact was going on
and what kind of games were played. On my
side then, besides the public votes, was the
law. They broke the rules they themselves
wrote, and that's clear as day to everyone.
The biggest satisfaction to me is that fact
that over 10,000 people voted for me, but
whose wish, unfortunately, was not respected.
However, it seems as though that last year
"I had to lose" so that this year
life could award me with much more, namely
the honor to be invited to represent another
country (Switzerland) at Eurovision, and
record a foreign album and sign contracts
that every artist dreams about.
How did the collaboration with
Ralph Siegel and Swiss TV come about?
I
collaborated with Ralph Siegel very
successfully for the first time last year,
when he was the author of my song at BH
Eurosong, "Sometimes I Wish I Were A
Child Again." Even though we did not go
to Kiev, our collaboration continued, luckily
and with mutual satisfaction. When the Swiss
TV announced that a song by Ralph Siegel was
to represent them in Athens, he immediately
had in his head a vision of a band of great
vocals, among which was I, which was a great
compliment to me, coming from such a
"Eurovision wolf" as Ralph.
What
can we expect from Tinka and Six4One on stage
in Athens?
You can expect a top vocal performance, as
well as a huge avalanche of emotion from me,
but also from all of my dear colleagues from
the band. We know each other so well that
sometimes it feels as though we've been
performing together forever. We are a
broken-in team, we believe in ourselves and
in the song and we're sure we'll do our part
perfectly. I hope that the voters in my
Bosnia, as well as around Europe, recognize
our song and the enormous amount of good
vibrations and most positive emotions that
will radiate from the stage that night. I am
sure that will enough for a good placing.
What do you expect in Athens?
Which songs do you consider your biggest
competition?
Maybe it
will sound a bit "tired," but
honestly first and foremost I expect to have
a great time in Athens, meeting tons of new
people, and a great life experience. I have
already been to Eurovision in Tallinn, so I
know very well what to expect there. It's
important to give it all and as a singer to
represent oneself in best light, and not to
be overly burdened with the final placing,
but only with what is before us, and that is
a performance in front of millions of TV
viewers around the world. I think that we
have very real chances for a great placing. I
believe in us and our song and all the hard
work we've invested during the past 5 months.
Of course, victory will not come easy. There
are many good songs and great singers. I have
heard all the song that will be competing
against me and if I really have to, I'd
single out Romania, Bosnia and Herzegovina,
Sweden, Albania, Greece and Spain.
We know that Andreas from
Six4One is a member of the popular group
Alcazar. There are rumors that you may join
them. What is the truth?
Andreas is
a great person, a wonderful friends and a
fantastic singer. In a very short time we've
become very good friends. We get along great,
think alike and understand each other very
well. I can always count on him and he on me.
As far as the rumors about a possible
membership in Alcazar, I wouldn't want to
comment on those at this moment. :-))
How you do rate the state of the
Bosnian music scene right now?
Our music
scene was always the leading scene on the
territory of former Yugoslavia. Our country
was always a real hotbed of talended artists.
Even in the hardest of times, our people did
not give up on music, which can be reflected
in our continuous participation at Eurovision
even during the war period. As far as today's
music scene is concerned, there are many
young and gifted musicians, who,
unfortunately, find it hard to be able to
express themselves, because this whole
business has become too commercialized. Today
it is very hard for a young artist to set
aside a ton of money to record an album, film
videos and the like. Still, all of those who
are really worthy, in the end simply
"surface out" and get their big
break, either in Bosnia or, as in my case,
even in Europe.
How long do you plan on hosting
the Bingo Show?
Bingo
brings the most beautiful memoried in me.
Four years of hosting a live show helps you
to learn the "trade." After Bingo,
I think I am ready to host any kind of
television show. I am very thankful to the
producer, Ismeta Dervoz, known to many
Eurovision fans as the "alpha and
omega" of Eurovision in Bosnia, who made
the whole Bingo experience for me very
pleasant. I don't know until when I will be
hosting Bingo, but I know that the show will
always remain in my heart, just like all the
dear people connected with the project.
Why did you decide to work with
foreign songwriters on the new album? Will
any Bosnian composers and lyricist write any
of the songs?
Let me
explain: I am working on two albums at once.
One is for the local market, which I have
started a long time ago and which will soon
see the light of the day. The other is the
album I am working on for the foreign market.
On the local album very talented Bosnian
artists are represented exclusively and they
know exactly which songs are perfect for my
sensibility and I am very satisfied with the
team that's working on the album for the
markets of former Yugoslavia. As far as the
foreign album is concerned, it is a
completely different story and has no
connection with my local album.
What can we expect on the new
album?
On the new
album you can expect diverse and quality
songs. I will try to bring even more
esthetics to our music scene. There will be
many different songs, different directions, I
will offer all that makes me happy and I hope
that other will recognize that and fall in
love with it as well. Basically, all my
friends and colleagues who have heard the
songs are unanimous in describing the
material as serious and of great quality,
which will not be an instant product at all,
but the songs will, in their own words, last
a long time, which makes me very happy. I
think that the album will also satisfy an
audience with very high demands.
Many fans from Serbia and
Montenegro are wondering when you plan on
introducing yourself to the public there?
Talks are
pending. Everything I do in life, I do it
very studiously and seriously. I want to
present myself to our neighbors in best
possibly light. By nature I am a
perfectionist and never leave anything to
chance. I can promise my dear fans in Serbia
and Montenegro that I am preparing many
surprises for them. Besides guest appearances
on radio and TV stations, they can expect to
soon see me on many renowned festivals in
their country.
In 2002, you supported Maja Tatić
at Eurovision. What did that experience teach
you?
That
experience is very valuable. As a backing
vocal and a dancer I had the chance to see
what it means to go out on a Eurovision stage
and simply live out those very important
three minutes in the life of every artist.
That year I was noticed by Eurovision fans
and important composers, both in Bosnia as
well as in Europe. The performance in Tallinn
was a very important step on my road. I am
glad to have performed at Eurovision first as
a backing vocal and a dance, and then as a
lead vocal. I think that this year it will be
much easier, because behind me is already one
Eurovision.
After last year's
"scandal" do you still have the
desire to represent Bosnia and Herzegovina in
the future?
Of course
I do! It would be really strange if someone
didn't have the desire to represent their
country at Eurovision. But I want to go there
under my conditions only. First, I think
there there is no longer any need or sense to
participate in some preselections, where
(apparently) everything is already known. I
no longer want to spend energy on proving
myself to the wrong people. I have already
participated four times in BH Eurosong,
presented myself in different editions and I
really do not see what else I have to do for
somebody in my country to
"recognize" me and send me to
Eurovision. The Swiss saw quality in me, just
like Bosnians and Herzegovinians who awarded
me over 10,000 televotes last year. If it
were up to Bosnians and Herzegovinians, I
would have represented Bosnia and Herzegovina
at Eurovision long ago. I like the way Hari
was selected for Athens this year and only
under those conditions would I go to
Eurovision.
It seems as though slowly your
are making it into the foreign markets. Are
you planning on building your career outside
along side building your career in Bosnia and
Herzegovina and the region?
Of course
I will build my career both in Bosnia and
Herzegovina and outside. I owe my fans in BiH
a lot, but I also feel a great responsibility
to the fans in other countries. My wish is
for everybody to be pleased, both my audience
and I. Physically, I hope to be able to build
my career on two "tracks." And in
addition to all of that, there is still my
academic engagement, another big life
challenge, namely the work on my doctoral
dissertation. A lot awaits me, but I am more
ready than ever.
In closing, collectively we all
wish you tons of luck, happiness and success
in Athens and for your hard work to pay off.
Bosnia and Herzegovina will cheer for Tinka!
Thanks a
lot everyone! Big thanks to Eurobosnia as
well, for the unconditional support, both
this year as well as previous year. My heart
grows big when I hear that Bosnia and
Herzegovina is with me. I wish for everyone
to be with me on May 20, and of course to
vote for me and the song number 01.
