The five piece girl
group Lollipop were chosen in a TV contest, a
mixture between Big Brother and Pop Idols, in
February 2001. All entrants had to be between
18 and 24 and 6000 girls applied to the
Italia 1 TV programme Lead Popstar. After 6
months of auditions over 8 cities, the girls
were secluded in a big brother house for 33
days and narrowed down to a final five.
The single Batte forte was
released in March 2002 under the WEA label to
coincide with its entry in the 2002 San Remo
Song Festival. It was written by Luigi Rana,
Vanni Giorgilli and Antonio Blescia. The song
only came 18th but that didnt stop
their popularity, the girls having had 3
number one singles and a number 1 album,
countless TV and radio appearances and videos
on MTV.
A new single is planned for January 2004
followed by an album.
